In the past, the Botubarani area was often visited by pirates who always maintained the peace of the village. A villager kills the pirates. The bodies of the pirates were placed in a limestone cave. The remains of the pirate's bones can still be found in the cave.

A villager who killed the pirates was then given the nickname 'Ti Barani' which means 'The Brave.' Later, the village was given the name 'Botubarani' which comes from the word 'Batu Berani' which means 'Brave Rocks'. The name 'Botubarani' was inspired by the incident where 'Ti Barani' placed the corpse of pirates on rocks in limestone caves.
