Boalemo, Kominfotik – Secretary General of UNESCO Global Geopark Network (GGN) Mr. Guy Martini assessed that Boalemo Regency has the potential to be appointed as a Gorontalo Geopark. According to him, the Geosite at Boalemo is a geological site. It has interesting stories, especially some community activities connected to ancestral traditions passed down from generation to generation.

"From what I have observed, Boalemo has a lot of potential, there are many interesting historical stories that come from the site here, and the people also impress me," said Mr. Guy during an interview during a visit to the Boalemo Regency Geosite, Monday (10/7/2023).

From his visits to several geosites in Boalemo, Guy Martini found unique stories from the local community. As in the visit to the granodiorite geosite in Saripi village, the rocks are believed to be where human bones are found, used to treat diseases.

Next, at the red stone location in Lahumbo Village, Tilamuta District. This place is usually used for "Modayango," or a dance to summon spirits in ancient times. He believes magical stories like this deserve to be appointed tourist attractions.

"When discussing Geoparks, we don't just teach geology, but combine all areas and traditions to realize sustainable development. So this is the best opportunity, said Mr. Guy.

Another destination that caught his attention was the Bolihutuo gabbro stone Geosite. This stone is interesting because it can change color during the rainy season and is believed to give a good or bad sign according to the color that appears on the stone.

"I think I need to discuss with the local team how to implement it to make Boalemo worthy of being proposed as a Geopark," he said.
