The Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) of Gorontalo Province supports the Gorontalo's geopark to be designated as a national or even international geopark. This was emphasized by the Chairman of the DPRD of Gorontalo Province, Paris RA. Jusuf, during the visit of Secretary-General of the Global Geopark Network (GGN), Mr. Guy Martini, along with the team from Bappenas RI, in Biluhu Timur Village, Batudaa Pantai District, Gorontalo Regency, on Saturday (8/7/2023).

"As an institution, I fully support this geopark in accordance with the duties and functions of the DPRD. I must convince all members of the DPRD to understand the importance of this geopark so that both the budget that needs to be funded by the Regional Budget (APBD) and the ones to be coordinated with the ministry will be advocated by the Gorontalo Provincial DPRD," said Paris.

Furthermore, Paris expressed gratitude that the proposed locations by the Gorontalo Provincial Government to become a national geopark under UNESCO's supervision were directly visited by the Secretary-General of GGN and the team from Bappenas RI. He believes that the visit of the team presents a significant opportunity for Gorontalo geopark to become a national geopark.

"We are ready to receive guidance and instructions from the Secretary-General of GGN and the team from Bappenas on what needs to be done to make Gorontalo geopark a national geopark. What we hope for is the acceleration of all the results from these visits because we are aware that this geopark will have a tremendous impact on economic growth, as well as the increase in regional revenue and the welfare of the community," said Paris.

On the second day of the assistance activities, the Secretary-General of GGN, along with the team from Bappenas, visited the Botubarani geosite and the whale shark destination in Bone Bolango Regency. Next, the team moved to the Dulanga Beach in Bongo Village and the geosite in Biluhu Timur Village, both in Batudaa Pantai District, Gorontalo Regency. The second-day visit concluded with an exploration of the Old City in the Gorontalo City area.
