This fort was built around 1522. Otanaha fort is located on a hill, and has 4 stopovers and 348 steps to the top to the fort site. Otanaha Fort is located near Limboto Lake.
Otanaha Fort is divided into three buildings namely Otanaha, Otahiya and Ulupahu. The fort was made by agreement between King Ilato and the Portuguese and is estimated to have been built in 1522. Fort Otanaha was made with the aim of being a fortress against enemy attacks.
