This building was built by the Dutch government around 1936. It was originally used as the office of the Royal Dutch shipping company KPM (Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschaappij). KPM had branches almost all over Indonesia, especially areas that had large ports. After the collapse of Dutch rule in Indonesia, the KPM company was taken over by the government of the Republic of Indonesia through a nationalization program in 1950, then used as the office of PT Pelni until now.
